For Dana and Joe, they started their session off at a sentimental lived-in space… her family’s condo, a place she’s been visiting for years. That in and of itself made the session so much more meaningful from the start. It truly was a great way to begin the session and helped everyone relax and enjoy the experience.
From there, we moved on to the beach just outside. That’s one of the biggest advantages of beach photography on Marco Island. The beach is not a far walk from other locations and you can easily incorporate more diversity in your photography or videography gallery just by walking around the island.
Building a Meaningful Engagement Session
One thing we talk about in our engagement guide is the idea of making sessions feel like a real date.
And Dana and Joe’s version of a date night is so sweet. Staying in, cooking, and spending time together at home. So instead of forcing a day that didn’t fit them, we decided to build the session around that instead of a traditional location-only shoot. Joe cooked spaghetti while Dana watched, talked, and laughed with him.
These were some incredibly sentimental Marco Island Florida photos. When you incorporate real routines, the photos stop feeling like just any photoshoot and start portraying who you both are as a couple.
Dana brought a lot of energy into the session. She’s expressive, playful, and fully in the moment. Joe is more calm and steady. Watching them together, you could see how naturally they balanced each other out. That dynamic was strong and honestly just so fun to capture.
Transitioning Into Beach Photography on Marco Island
After the at-home portion, we walked straight out to the beach. This is where we just love Marco Island photos, especially during golden hour.
The light was incredible, the beach was perfect, and everything felt more natural and less posed. There was no rushing or over-structuring. It was just capturing a couple who truly enjoy each other.
Then (in true Florida fashion) the weather changed.
A quick rainstorm rolled through, and instead of pausing, they fully embraced it. This is something we try to prepare couples for as photographers in Marco Island Florida, weather changes fast, but it usually passes just as quickly.
In our opinion, this part of the session ended up being one of the most memorable. The rain ended up adding to the experience instead of taking away from it. Once it cleared, we moved right into blue hour, which created a really unique look.
The Best Way to End Your Marco Island Photos
Instead of ending on the beach, we added one more stop… ice cream on the dock.
They grabbed their favorite local flavor (blue Cookie Monster), sat together, and just slowed down. It was a really great way to complete the session and end on a high note.

We also can’t ignore the weather. It’s unpredictable, but not in a way that should stress you out. If anything, it creates opportunities. Some of our favorite moments happen when things don’t go exactly as planned.
