Our 3 Favorite Miami Engagement Photo Locations

Looking for some of the best Miami engagement photo locations? Miami has no shortage of beautiful places for engagement photos. As Naples, Florida wedding photographers, we love choosing locations that align with our couples goals. We want the location to fit your personalities and your style.

Over the years, we’ve photographed couples in a variety of locations around South Florida, and these are three of our favorite engagement photo locations in Miami: Deering Estate, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, and Tree Tops Park.

Each one has a completely different look to it, so let’s get into what makes each location unique.

Deering Estate

If you’re looking for a location that has historic architecture, beautiful gardens, and water views, Deering Estate is one of our favorite places to consider for Miami engagement photo locations.

Deering Estate is a historic site and cultural destination in Miami-Dade County, with diverse ecosystems. The estate includes historic buildings, gardens, and waterfront areas, giving you quite a bit of variety within one location.

We photographed a really sweet proposal here where he proposed in the garden area overlooking the water. After the proposal, we moved into the gardens for portraits, which gave the couple a nice mix of waterfront scenery and greenery all in one location.

That kind of variety is a big reason we recommend Deering Estate when couples ask us where to take engagement photos in Miami.

One Important Thing to Know About Deering Estate

Professional and portrait photography at Deering Estate requires a permit and fee. The estate currently offers different permit options depending on the size and scope of your session, and groups of four or more may require an additional permit from the Office of Film and Entertainment.

There are also specific rules for photography on the property, including restrictions on portrait photography inside the historic houses.

So if you’re considering Deering Estate, don’t simply show up with your photographer and assume you can start shooting. Make sure the appropriate permit is arranged ahead of time. Or better yet, choose a photography and videography team who has already shot here.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

If your Pinterest board is filled with European-inspired architecture, gardens, waterfront portraits, and editorial details, Vizcaya is probably going to be high on your list.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is one of the most recognizable historic estates in Miami. The property includes a historic Main House, expansive gardens, waterfront terraces, and vine-covered structures that give you a huge variety of backdrops throughout the grounds.

This is one of those Miami engagement photo locations where you could spend an entire session exploring different areas and still feel like you were getting completely different photographs.

The architecture alone is incredible. Add in the gardens and waterfront, and you have a lot to work with.

For couples who want their engagement photos to feel a little more elevated or editorial, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a great option. It’s especially beautiful if your outfits are on the dressier side and you want the location to complement that style.

As Florida photographers and videographers, we’ve photographed Vizcaya Museum and Gardens engagement sessions, and one of our favorite things about Vizcaya is how easy it is to create variety. You can get architectural portraits, garden photographs, and waterfront images without moving locations.

One Important Photography Note

This is another location where you’ll want to plan ahead.

Vizcaya requires a photography permit when the purpose of your visit is portrait photography, including engagement sessions and proposals. Current permit options vary depending on what you’re looking for, and standard portrait permits cover the gardens rather than general access to the Main House.

Vizcaya also offers premium photography experiences that can provide earlier access and, with certain options, guided access to select areas of the Main House.

Because policies, pricing, and access can change, we always recommend checking the museum’s current photography requirements before booking your session.

If you love the look of this location, we can also help you think through what to wear for your engagement session and how to prepare for your session so you’re not trying to figure everything out on your own.

Tree Tops Park

If you’re looking for something more natural, green, and a little moodier, Tree Tops Park in Davie is one of our favorite alternatives.

Tree Tops Park is a 243-acre regional park with nature and equestrian trails, a restored freshwater marsh, a boardwalk, and other natural spaces. It’s very different from the architecture and waterfront scenery you’ll find at Vizcaya or Deering Estate.

As South Florida photographers, we’ve photographed a couple here who brought along an old green/blue Mercedes, and it was such a unique addition to their engagement session. The combination of the vintage car, lush greenery, and natural setting gave the photographs a really cool element.

If you have something meaningful to you that you’d like to incorporate into your session (a vintage car, your dog, or a hobby) this is the kind of location where you can have a little more fun with it.

Tree Tops Park is also equestrian-friendly, with public horseback riding trails, although that doesn’t mean every area is open for horses.

And a quick practical note: Broward County regional parks generally have a $3-per-vehicle gate fee for weekends and county-observed holidays for vehicles carrying eight or fewer people. Pedestrians, bicyclists, and horseback riders can enter regional parks without the gate fee.

So, Which Miami Engagement Photo Location Is Right for You?

When couples ask us about engagement photo locations in Miami, we don’t think there’s one universal answer.

It really comes down to what you want.

Choose Deering Estate if you want:
Water views, gardens, historic surroundings, and a relaxed South Florida feel.

Choose Vizcaya if you want:
Architecture, gardens, waterfront scenery, and a more elevated or editorial look.

And Choose Tree Tops Park if you want:
Lush greenery, nature, a moodier setting, and room to incorporate something personal.

Making Your Engagement Session Personal

This is something we care about a lot as Florida photographers and videographers. We don’t want you to show up to your engagement session feeling completely unsure.

Our approach is a mix of natural interaction and gentle direction. We’ll give you enough guidance to feel comfortable, but we also want to leave room for you and your partner to enjoy the moment.

Some of our favorite photographs happen when you’re focused on each other and not on us. Those moments are part of your relationship, and worth one thousand words when they’re documented.

That’s also why we love incorporating meaningful details into engagement sessions. The vintage Mercedes at Tree Tops Park is a great example. It wasn’t necessary to create a beautiful gallery, but it gave the session something personal.

Let’s Capture Your Miami Engagement Photos

Whether you love the water at Deering Estate, the architecture at Vizcaya, or the greenery at Tree Tops Park, there are plenty of beautiful Miami engagement photo locations to choose from.

But choosing the location is only one part of the experience. We want your session to be comfortable and personal to the two of you, not like you’re recreating someone else’s Pinterest board.

As a husband-and-wife photo and video team, we love getting to know our couples and finding the details that make their story unique. From engagement sessions to wedding weekends, we’re here to create photographs and films that reflect your love.

If you’re looking for a South Florida photo and video team, reach out to us today. We’d love to help you find the right location and create something you’ll want to look back on years from now.
